In May 2005, my friend Klaus Trummer
and I started on a 3 week round trip in the Southwest of USA,
visiting the States of California, Nevada and Arizona.
This map shows the
route we followed on our Journey.
Our journey started in
San Francisco.
From there we headed towards Palo Alto to visit a
Powwow,
a great convention of native Americans at the site of the Stanford
University. The next day we drove south along the Pacific coast on the
famous
Highway 1
. After a short stop in
Santa Barbara and a night stay in Ventura
Beach we headed for our next destination Los Angeles. There we stayed at a
Motel 6 in
Hollywood. We visited
Beverly Hills
with the famous Rodeo Drive, strolled around the
skyscraper
district in Downtown L.A., and spent a day at the
Universal Studios.
Before heading towards San Diego, we also visited the most famous coastline
of L.A. -
Venice Beach.
Arriving at the most southern location of our journey, we strolled through
San Diego
Downtown and spent a whole day at
SeaWorld.
Then we drove eastbound to the old ghost town of
Calico.
The next destination on our visiting tour was the
Grand Canyon where we stayed for 2 days
admiring this spectacular wonder of nature. Next we proceeded
towards
Monument Valley
, followed by the
Bryce Canyon
and back into more inhabited areas. As a complete contrast to the
contemplative natural landscape, we dived into the world of glitter in
Las Vegas
, where we reached the temperature limit for sight seeing, about 40 deg.
Celsius. But what was really worth seeing was
Las Vegas by
night. After having spent 2 days in this marvellous city, we
headed for
Sequoia National Park
where we visited the famous huge trees. As the last destination on our
3000 mile trip
through 3 US States, we headed again towards San Francisco where we spent
our last free day before taking off for good old Europe.
